Awaken the Dawn

Awaken the Dawn

The story of Anne Bland's ministry of hospitality in Africa.

When Anne Bland and her husband find themselves in Africa without a home, an estate agent offers them the perfect house. The only problem is, they are missionaries and penniless! But God intervenes and the house becomes theirs. Soon they find people being led to their home to receive hospitality, to hear the Gospel, to grow in their faith – and even to get married.

However, when Anne discovers that her husband has been unfaithful to her, her world falls apart. Soon she finds herself fighting for her home, her family and her health. Yet, in the midst of everything, she finds hope and strength in the faithfulness and unfailing love of God.

Anne Baylis Bland

Born in England, Anne Baylis Bland first worked as assistant to her father in her family’s building construction business. After marriage, she went to Canada, then to Africa with a Canadian Mission. Six years later, altered circumstances meant she and her husband became self-supporting so they could continue their Christian work, which lasted another twenty-three years.

Mother of three and grandmother of seven, she now lives in England but still visits family in Zambia. Upon her return, alone, to England, she first worked as a school cook, then as a Scheme Manager in Sheltered Housing. Since retiring, she has served her local church for sixteen years as a Deacon and House Group Leader, seven of those years also as Church Administrator. During these years, she also ran the churchís ALPHA Courses, then Christianity Explored and Discipleship Explored groups. Currently, she hosts a weekly Prayer group and one-on-one Bible study/mentoring sessions.

Excellently written easy to read portrayal of a life of hard work and faith
often in adversity yet showing throughout the strength and faithfulness
    of God.
    Looking forward to the sequel.

This is a roller coaster of a read that left me amazed at both how wonderful and how cruel humans can be, how resilient the human spirit is, and how faithful God is in both the best and worst of times.
