Methodist Recorder review of Christmas Bestseller: ‘A framework to turn the devotional reading into a slightly more formal prayer time’

A recent review of Beyond the Chocolate Window tells readers that the book will 'assist us in our daily devotions'.

Becky Lovatt’s Christmas bestseller has been included in a recent Methodist Recorder article.

Adrian Burdon creates a list of advent book suggestions for readers. When discussing Becky Lovatt’s book he notes how her work “offers material to carry us through from Advent Sunday until Epiphany.”

He describes Beyond the Chocolate Window as “…a book of three parts. The first part (“The Hope Foretold”) covers the first two weeks of Advent and helps us to reflect upon how the Old Testament prepares for the coming of Jesus. The second two weeks of Advent (“The Hope Realised”) offers us the Christmas story through the eyes of the participants. The third section (“The Hope to Come”), covering the 12 days of Christmas, considers what impact Jesus’ life had on the world.”

Adrian concludes that “A set of prayers of Adoration, Confession and Intercession are offered as a framework to turn the devotional reading into a slightly more formal prayer time.”

We pray that you too will be inspired by Becky’s collection of Advent reflections and readings.

Want a copy of your own? There is still time to order your perfect companion to the Christmas season.

About the Book

Advent is a time when the excitement of Christmas begins to build. The shops are stocked, the TV advertisements are in overdrive and the windows of the Advent calendar reveal each day another chocolate delight.

But, of course, Advent is really about preparing our hearts to celebrate how God stepped into the world in the person of our saviour Jesus. Becky Lovatt invites us to join her on a journey through the Bible, exploring the thoughts and feelings of some of the people touched by God, so that we too can deepen our relationship with him.

This book presents daily meditations for Advent and Christmas, offering new insights into well-known stories. Each meditation is accompanied by a scripture reading, questions offered for reflection, an action to reinforce the message and a prayer.
