Prelaunch Before Lockdown!

Prelaunch Before Lockdown!

Lucky Author Beats the National Lockdown

Deborah and Jael, an illustrated children’s book written by Lucy Rycroft and illustrated by Beth Aulton, was due to be released on April 1st, 2020. However, Rycroft organised her book launch event to be held early on 8th March, coinciding with International Women’s Day. This turned out to be an extra blessing in disguise, as within a week the nation had gone into an unexpected lockdown over Covid-19.

The event, which was held at the Storehouse in York, saw the gathering of many families for a fun afternoon of crafts, toys, a bouncy castle and yummy cakes.

There were also live storytelling sessions, which included the opportunity for children to dress up and act as characters from the story of Deborah and Jael! This was very popular, and one 4-year-old in particular attended every storytelling, if only to play the part of Evil King Jabin multiple times!

Participants had the opportunity to design their own swords and shields, as well as to get their own signed copy of the book.

All in all, it was a fun afternoon, and a helpful dose of joy before the less happy days of lockdown that were soon to follow.

About the Book

Evil King Jabin has been in power for 20 years – but who is brave enough to defeat him? Deborah and Jael are two strong women. They are ready to stand up and use their bravery and wisdom to help their people and serve God.

In this poetic retelling of the well-known Bible story, found in Judges, children will discover how God uses His friends to bring peace and defeat evil.
