The Shepherd Spy goes global!
This Christmas in the Bulgarian city of Sliven, children in the Baptist Church will be performing a play from The Shepherd Spy.
Sliven Baptist Church in Bulgaria is set to host a performance of a nativity play written by Angie McEvansoneya.
First performed in the UK at a Carol Service in a village near Derby, ‘A Star is Born‘ is to be part of the Christmas outreach and celebrations in Sliven, both in the church and at a home for the elderly.
‘A Star is Born’ is one of twelve plays that make up The Shepherd Spy. The play imagines the excitement of the stars in our Galaxy when God calls them to a special meeting. God is looking for a special star who will proclaim the birth of his Son, Jesus. All the stars are to explore the Galaxy to find the secret of brightness.
Playwright Angie McEvansoneya commented, ‘I was very excited and honoured to hear that one of my plays will be performed overseas. I think my comment when my husband read out the email was, “Wow! That’s amazing!”
We hope those taking part in the nativity have a wonderful time!
About the Book
The Shepherd Spy is a collection of 12 nativity plays, for children of all ages and for groups of all sizes.
Each play presents a different slant on the Christmas story, with the author’s licence as to some of the surrounding details. We look at the nativity through different eyes – those of mice, a young spy of Herod’s, the national news channel, the stars and others. Every play has been tried and tested and can be performed in a small church building with a small stage and no curtains or spotlights.
Most children today have only a very limited knowledge of what Christmas if really about. By actually taking part in a nativity play, the story can become a central part of the children’s memories of Christmas.
